Hip Impingement and Labral Tear Treatment in Indore
Groin pain with deep bending, twisting or prolonged sitting can occur with hip impingement or a labral tear. Diagnosis connects symptoms with examination and imaging.
Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) describes abnormal contact between the ball and socket during movement. Cam and pincer describe bone shapes that can contribute. The labrum is the cartilage rim around the socket; a tear or bone-shape finding on a scan does not automatically explain pain or require surgery.
FAI and Hip Labral Tear Assessment
Symptoms can overlap with arthritis, tendon problems and other sources of groin pain. Clicking alone cannot diagnose a labral tear.
Symptoms to describe
- Groin or front-of-hip pain with bending, squatting or twisting.
- Pain after sitting or during sport, sometimes with restricted movement.
- Painful catching or clicking, including what movements bring it on.
Examination and imaging
- Assessment includes the hip, walking pattern and relevant nearby structures.
- X-rays assess bone shape, joint space and possible arthritis.
- MRI may assess the labrum and cartilage. Selected cases need an MR arthrogram or a diagnostic injection after discussion.
FAI and Labral Tear Treatment Without Surgery
A structured nonsurgical programme is often the first step. It aims to reduce symptoms and improve strength and movement control.
Activity and rehabilitation
- Adjust repeated deep flexion, twisting or other movements that trigger pain.
- Physiotherapy works on hip and trunk strength, control and comfortable mobility.
- Keep up tolerable activity rather than repeatedly forcing the hip into a painful position.
Review the response
- Pain relief may be advised after reviewing medical conditions and other medicines.
- An injection can sometimes help assess the source of pain or provide temporary relief.
- Track sitting tolerance, walking and sport-related symptoms so follow-up can assess meaningful progress.
When Can Hip Arthroscopy Help?
Arthroscopy may be considered for persistent symptoms linked to a treatable abnormality despite appropriate nonsurgical care. The amount of cartilage damage, stability and overall hip structure affect suitability.
What may be treated
- Small instruments and a camera allow assessment inside the hip.
- A suitable labral tear may be repaired; selected impinging bone can be reshaped.
- Established arthritis or hip dysplasia may require a different treatment strategy.
Rehabilitation and limitations
- Crutches, weight-bearing limits and exercises depend on the procedure performed.
- Return to work and sport is staged; recovery may take months.
- Risks include infection, blood clots, nerve irritation and persistent symptoms. Surgery cannot guarantee return to sport or prevent future arthritis.
Questions About FAI and Labral Tears
Does a labral tear on MRI need surgery?
- No. The finding must match the symptoms and examination. The response to rehabilitation and the condition of the rest of the joint also matter.
Is hip arthroscopy the same as hip replacement?
- No. Arthroscopy treats selected problems while keeping the natural joint. Replacement changes the damaged joint surfaces and is generally considered for a different pattern of disease.
When to Seek Help and What to Bring
Seek urgent medical assessment for severe pain after a fall, inability to bear weight, or a hot painful hip with fever. Do not wait for a routine appointment in these situations.
For a planned consultation
- Bring previous X-rays or MRI images as well as the written reports.
- Bring your medicine list and details of previous treatment or surgery.
- Note what limits walking, sleep, work or sport, and what you hope treatment will improve.
