Hip Arthroscopy
Keyhole hip surgery may help selected patients with labral tears, femoroacetabular impingement, loose bodies and early hip joint problems.

Conditions
Problems evaluated for hip arthroscopy
Hip arthroscopy is useful only for selected causes of hip pain.
Possible indications
- Labral tear.
- Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI).
- Loose bodies.
- Snapping hip or selected early cartilage problems.
May not be useful when
- Advanced arthritis is present.
- AVN has collapsed the femoral head.
- Pain source is spine, pelvis or non-hip related.
Workup
Diagnosis before deciding surgery
Patient selection matters more than the word arthroscopy itself.
Assessment
- Hip range of motion and impingement tests.
- X-ray review for arthritis or shape abnormality.
- MRI/MR arthrogram where needed.
Recovery
- Protected weight bearing when advised.
- Structured physiotherapy.
- Gradual return to sport or activity.
