Understand the treatment
What is Robo-D-Spine Therapy?
Robo-D-Spine Therapy is our clinic’s name for its machine-based, non-surgical spine decompression service. It is offered within the Healing and Rehabilitation (Physiotherapy) department.
How does spine decompression work?
Many non-surgical spinal decompression systems apply controlled mechanical traction through a treatment table and supports. This approach is intended to reduce loading on spinal structures during treatment. It does not establish that a disc has been permanently repaired or a spinal disease corrected.
The treating team can explain the installed machine’s features, positioning and settings. “Robotic” does not mean autonomous diagnosis or robotic surgery.
This therapy is different from endoscopic spine decompression surgery and from X4-Ortho Laser Therapy.

Common spine concerns
Slip disc, sciatica and lower back pain: assessment in Indore
Patients often describe these problems as back pain, a slipped disc, a disc bulge or a “pinched nerve”. These words can describe different problems; the first step is to establish what is causing your symptoms.
Slip disc and disc bulge
If you are exploring slip disc treatment in Indore, ask how your symptoms and examination relate to the scan findings. A disc bulge on an MRI does not by itself establish the cause of pain or the need for a particular treatment.
Disc prolapse or PIVD (prolapsed intervertebral disc) may appear in your report. The team can explain these terms and discuss exercise, activity guidance and other appropriate options. A disc-related diagnosis does not automatically make Robo-D-Spine Therapy suitable.
Sciatica and a pinched nerve
Sciatica can involve pain travelling from the lower back or buttock down a leg, sometimes with tingling, numbness or weakness. Not all back or leg pain is sciatica.
For sciatica treatment in Indore, assessment helps distinguish nerve-related symptoms from other causes. Discuss whether non-surgical care is appropriate and what changes in symptoms need prompt review.
Understanding L4-L5 and L5-S1 MRI findings
L4-L5 and L5-S1 describe levels in the lower spine. The level, or the words “disc bulge”, do not alone decide whether you need therapy or surgery. Your symptoms, strength, sensation and relevant scan findings must be considered together.
Can a slip disc be treated without surgery?
Non-surgical care may be appropriate for some patients. Treatment choices and the need for a surgical opinion depend on the assessment and your response to care. This machine cannot promise disc correction or surgery avoidance.
Other report terms, such as lumbar spondylosis or spinal canal stenosis, need their own clinical interpretation. Neck pain and cervical symptoms also need specific assessment; do not assume this machine is suitable for them. Read our spine and back pain guide for broader condition information.
Your diagnosis guides your care
Is robotic spine decompression therapy suitable for me?
Back pain, pain travelling into a leg or a previous disc-related diagnosis can raise questions about treatment. They do not automatically make someone suitable for this therapy.
What we assess
- Your symptoms, their duration and their effect on daily activities.
- Strength, sensation, movement and relevant examination findings.
- Previous treatment, medical conditions and any spine surgery.
- Existing reports and scans when relevant to the decision.
What your plan should explain
- Whether this modality is appropriate and what other options exist.
- The intended goals, limitations, risks and costs.
- How treatment fits with exercise and activity guidance.
- When to review progress, change treatment or seek specialist advice.
An MRI is not compulsory for every assessment. Further imaging is advised only when clinically indicated. Neck treatment and treatment after previous spine surgery need specific discussion with the team.

Safety, evidence and treatment limitations
Discuss risks before treatment
No treatment can be promised to have zero side effects. Traction can cause short-term muscle spasms. Tell the team about osteoporosis, fractures, pregnancy, infection, cancer, instability, previous surgery or any other significant medical history so they can check the relevant precautions.
The device-specific assessment determines suitability. Report worsening pain, new numbness or weakness promptly.
Understand what the evidence says
Evidence for spinal traction and non-surgical decompression is limited. NICE guidance recommends against traction for low back pain with or without sciatica. Any proposed use should be discussed in that context, alongside other care options.
This service does not promise permanent disc repair, correction of every spine condition or prevention of surgery.
Non-surgical and surgical care
When is endoscopic spine decompression surgery considered?
If symptoms persist despite appropriate non-surgical care, further assessment may be needed. Endoscopic spine decompression surgery may be an option for selected patients, depending on symptoms, examination findings and whether imaging identifies a problem surgery can address.
Dr. Anupam Khandelwal also offers endoscopic spine decompression surgery for suitable patients. He has undergone training in endoscopic spine surgery in Korea.
A lack of improvement with Robo-D-Spine Therapy does not automatically mean surgery is needed. Other care may be more suitable, and some urgent conditions need specialist assessment without first trying this modality.

Your questions
Robo-D-Spine Therapy: frequently asked questions
Is Robo-D-Spine Therapy the same as spinal decompression surgery?
No. Robo-D-Spine Therapy is the clinic’s name for its non-surgical machine-based spine decompression service. Endoscopic spine decompression is a separate surgical procedure for selected patients.
Is robotic spine decompression therapy the same as traction?
Many non-surgical decompression systems use controlled mechanical traction. The team can explain the installed machine’s settings and how it is used. The word “robotic” does not mean that the machine diagnoses your condition or performs surgery.
Can a slip disc be treated without surgery in Indore?
Non-surgical options may be appropriate depending on your symptoms and examination. They can include activity guidance, exercises and other clinician-directed care. Robo-D-Spine Therapy is not suitable for every slip disc and cannot guarantee that surgery will be avoided.
Can robotic decompression be considered for sciatica?
A diagnosis of sciatica or a disc bulge does not automatically make this treatment suitable. Symptoms, examination findings, previous treatment and any relevant imaging must be considered together. Evidence for traction is limited, and other care may be more appropriate.
Does an L4-L5 or L5-S1 disc bulge need surgery?
The MRI level alone does not decide treatment. The clinician considers symptoms, strength, sensation and whether the scan findings explain the problem. Some patients may need non-surgical care, while others need specialist or surgical assessment.
Can I send my spine MRI for a second opinion in Indore?
Yes. Contact the clinic to arrange a second-opinion consultation and receive instructions for sharing your existing MRI report and scan images privately. Include your symptoms, their duration and previous treatment. The clinic will confirm the process and any consultation fee.
Do I need a new MRI before booking?
No. You can enquire or book an assessment without obtaining a new MRI. Bring existing reports if available. Further imaging is advised only when clinically indicated; scan review alone may not be enough to decide treatment.
Will the treatment be uncomfortable or have side effects?
Tell the treating team about discomfort or any change in symptoms during or after a session. Traction can cause short-term muscle spasms and is unsuitable for some conditions. The team should explain the relevant risks and precautions before treatment; no treatment can be promised to have zero side effects.
How many sessions will I need and what will they cost?
Session duration, number of visits, review points and costs depend on the assessment and proposed plan. Ask the clinic for these details before starting. A fixed course or an improvement timeline cannot be promised for everyone.
Can I have this therapy after spine surgery or for neck pain?
Previous spine surgery needs individual review. Neck treatment also depends on the installed device’s capabilities and clinical suitability. Ask the team before booking a treatment session.
What if non-surgical treatment does not help?
Persistent symptoms require reassessment. Further rehabilitation, other treatment or a surgical opinion may be appropriate. Dr. Anupam Khandelwal offers endoscopic spine decompression surgery for suitable patients; surgery is not an automatic next step after machine-based therapy.
How is it different from X4-Ortho Laser Therapy?
These are different treatments. Spine decompression uses a mechanical approach, while X4-Ortho Laser Therapy uses therapeutic light. The choice of treatment, or whether either should be used, depends on an individual assessment.
